Something's Happening Today

Someone is coming to pick us up this morning to do paperwork. It will be nice to actually see progress. Today marks 1 week in Ukraine and we haven't done anything except our SDA appointment. They indicated we will be able to go to #4 today and see Sergey. There is a birthday party for Andrei today, hopefully we will be able to be there for that. Nancy helped make cupcakes for it last night.

There is a new rule that took effect last Monday that the Inspector must accompany us to the orphanage for the first visit. The Inpector's job officially is to enforce or ensure the rights of the child by Ukrainian law. If you will recall, the government ministry in Kiev that we visited and got our referral from is the SDAPRC, commonly shortened to SDA, which is the State Department for Adoption and Protection of Rights of the Child. The Inspector has the power to derail any adoption. Getting on the good side of him or her is very important. I am wearing a tie today. Since we will be seeing the Inspector, perhaps we will be learning more about Valya as well.

Nothing with us happened yesterday, adoptionwise. We know our facilitator worked on our behalf yesterday, but it is invisible to us. We stayed at the apartment yesterday, only going out to the market. People here shop only for one day at a time. People do not have large pantries to store food in, food is expensive, and anyway you carry all of your items home. We, I mostly, made a chicken dinner for our hosts. One of them, a sweet Ukrainian young lady, said it was like a Christmas meal. That was interesting, since it was a typical meal in America.

Will post more later when we have something to report.

Please tell Andrei happy birthday from me! He gave me a picture of him blowing out his candles from last year. I love that boy so much!

Interesting news about the inspector having to be with you.. That will be interesting. It's making me nervous for when we go, but I am sure everything is just fine and I don't need one more thing to worry about...lol

So sweet that they loved the chicken meal. I am sure they are loving having you there preparing such wonderful meals for them. :)
